Happiest, healthiest, wealthiest and wisest

Living here in Sydney it is hard to understand why not all people are sporting the widest possible grins and why some people are still complaining all the time. A couple of new surveys confirm what we already knew:

Generally speaking it’s better to live in Australia than anywhere else in the world. According to the Economist in 2009 Australia has three of its cities (that is most of its cities) in top ten most liveable cities in the world. To be honest in every survey we are also consistently ranked among the top 10 happiest countries in the world, the most satisfied , the overall most liveable . Who would have picked the safe, sunny country with blue skies, long white sandy beaches, barbeques and cold beers…

The problem is then if you’re here and feeling miserable… well that’s it, it’s all downhill from here. Unless you move to Norway. Or Iceland. So if you’re unhappy you better like snow.

It’s hard to find things to complain about Australia, but we will. Of course there are drawbacks to living in Oz. Thousands of Australians manage to find them every year. It seems the blue skies, long white sandy beaches, barbeques and cold beers can get too much. Every year thousands Australians just can’t take it anymore and move to London.

… and moving to London cures the depression of any Australian, who after arrival, suddenly realises what they left behind and rush back happier than ever :P Been there, done that!
